extract from “reminders” by hazel una (1979)

“after five miles, gleeson fell into a rhythm his body had not known before.

in the days when he would, at most, walk from place to place, all but the slightest movements presented him with great emotional difficulty. it was as though he resented his muscles for remembering their strength after unknown periods of inactivity.

now his body had begun to take over and his thoughts, which had always stirred like lazy housecats, slumped down in their chairs and fell asleep.

he may have long since passed his point of potential physical excellence but gleeson had only just been introduced to physcial brilliance.”
